Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5

Sony NEX-5

Sony follows the trend with hybrid cameras and in May 2010 they launched the NEX-3 and NEX-5.

The cameras have the  small size of a compact digital camera and combines many of the advantages of a SLR camera.

The NEX-3 and NEX-5 is taking pictures as good as a SLR, is half the weight and far less complex. There are few buttons and the cameras have an on-screen user guide that explains the cameras settings and gives you hints to get the best shot.

3D ready

Sony has released the firmware that will provide the ability to create 3D panoramas. You just have to put the camera in “3D Sweep Panorama mode”. The 3D images can be displayed on a 3D-compatible TV.

HD movie

The NEX-cameras are quite equal. The difference is small. NEX-5 is obviously the most fashionable of the two models, where the body is made of magnesium (vs. plastic). In addition, the NEX-5 is shooting in 1080i HD movie recording (AVCHD), while NEX-3 “only” manage 720p (MPEG4).

Short facts about Sony NEX-5:

  • 14.2 megapixels
  • Up to 7 frames per sec
  • Full HD movie 1080i
  • Sweep Panorama
  • 3D ready
  • On-screen help guide and photo shooting tips
  • Live View
  • 3” LCD screen – tilts down 45° and up 80°
  • ISO 12800 sensitivity
