Nikon D5000

Nikon D5000

If you are looking for a camera that provides very high image quality, then the Nikon D5000 can be a good alternative.

The camera was launched in 2009 and is a 12.9 megapixels digital SLR camera with a vari-angle LCD monitor and HD video. The vari-angle monitor is new and swings down approximately 90° and rotates 180°, offering the user more flexibility to easily shoot from interesting angles.

Besides very good exposure control, the camera’s Active D-Lighting is used to expand the dynamic range of the image by looking up the shadows and reduce highlights so they do not burn out in white and lose detail in bright areas of the subject. The Active D-Lighting will make more correct choices than the photographer in most situations.

Nikon D5000 makes it easy for anyone to get good images, with potential for even higher quality when one learns all the functions.  The camera will be the right choice for those that do not put too much emphasis on video.

The video feature can be fun to experiment with and the quality is OK. But D5000 has a lower video resolution (720p), than for example the Canon EOS 500D/ EOS Rebel T1i (1.080p).

The Nikon D5000 is the smaller brother of the Nikon D90 and they look quite similar. The Nikon D5000 is quick and easy to use, has the most necessary functions, plus the video feature.

Nikon D5000 features:
  • New 2.7-in. Vari-angle monitor
  • 12.3 effective megapixels and Integrated Dust Reduction System
  • One-touch access to Live View, which includes face priority AF and subject tracking
  • D-SLR movie function
  • 19 Scene Modes that automatically adjust exposure, image processing, Active D-Lighting and other settings for superior image quality
  • Scene Recognition System
  • Active D-Lighting for smooth tone reproduction in high-contrast environments
  • Up to 4 fps continuous shooting
  • Compatible with HDMI output (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)
